Formal Acknowledgment of Association Founding

It is with great pleasure that the Bruce Eriksen Place Residents Association (B.E.P.R.A.) formally recognizes and welcomes the founding of the Bridget Moran Place Tenants Association (B.M.P.T.A.) as an unincorporated association.

This acknowledgment serves to confirm B.M.P.T.A.’s status as a fellow member-association under the @TANets umbrella. The emergence of this association at 668 Powell Street marks a significant milestone in the collective pursuit of tenant autonomy, safety, and dignity within the social housing landscape of the Downtown Eastside.

A Shared Foundation and Oversight: NHS

Both B.E.P.R.A. and B.M.P.T.A. operate within a unique and specific context, as both communities are managed by NHS (Neighbourhood Housing Society – British Columbia). As documented through the respective platforms at bruceeriksenplace.ca and bridgetmoranplace.ca, this shared oversight brings a specific set of collective concerns regarding building maintenance, resident safety, and the transparency of provider-tenant relations.

By organizing as an unincorporated association, B.M.P.T.A. has taken the vital first step in ensuring that resident voices are legally and socially recognized as a unified front against these shared challenges.

Eight Years of Resilience

B.E.P.R.A. has operated as a Tenant Association for eight years. For the majority of that time, its presence situated just off the corner of Main and Hastings has served as more than just a local advocacy group; it has been foundational to the development and growth of the @TANets platform itself.

This long-standing history at the heart of the community has provided the blueprints for the advocacy structures that @TANets now offers to associations like B.M.P.T.A. Having navigated the complexities of NHS management for nearly a decade, B.E.P.R.A. stands ready to share institutional knowledge to strengthen the mutual position of both associations.

Commitment to Solidarity

The “foundational” spirit of B.E.P.R.A. is rooted in the principle that no tenant association should stand alone. As B.M.P.T.A. begins its journey, it does so with a seasoned ally in B.E.P.R.A. Together, as part of the @TANets network, both associations will continue to hold providers accountable and foster a community of mutual support and strength.

In Solidarity,

The Administration Bruce Eriksen Place Residents Association (B.E.P.R.A.) Founding Member of @TANets
